The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Cross River State, Dr Helen Isamoh-Egodo has sympathized with victims of the fire incident that razed yam barns belonging to over nine people on Monday in Bishiri, Obudu local government area.
In a goodwill message on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Dr Helen noted that the immense damage caused by the fire undoubtedly will intensify the economic hardship of the victims.
“I understand that these yam barns are not just a source of livelihood, but also represented hard work, dedication and hope for our people. It breaks my heart to see the fruits of your labour reduced to ashes in a matter of moments.
“We have already mobilized a team of experts to assess the damage and provide immediate assistance to those affected. Our priority is to ensure that you have the necessary resources to restart your yam cultivation and regain your economic stability. We will work tirelessly to provide financial aid, agricultural inputs, and technical support to help you get back on your feet.
“Remember, it is in times like these that the true strength of a community shines through. Let us stand united, supporting and uplifting one another.
Reaffirming her commitment to serving people, she assured the affected of her ministry’s constant affection and urged the victims to reach out to her office if they require any further assistance or have any concerns.
