The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), on Wednesday, announced the timetable for the 2024 Local Government Elections.
Under the authority granted by the Constitution of Nigeria (1999, amended) and Cross River State Law No. 2 (2002), the electoral process will begin on September 25, 2024.
While announcing the electoral timetable, Chairman Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr Ekong Boco assured all political parties of a level playing field.
According to the released schedule, party primaries and the resolution of any disputes will also occur on September 25, 2024, in line with Section 7(a-b) of CROSIEC Guidelines.
Political parties will be able to submit their candidate lists to CROSIEC starting October 1, 2024. Candidates must submit forms LGE 001 and 002, along with other required documentation, with the final submission of candidate lists due by October 29, 2024.
Nomination forms, including CROSIEC 005a and CROSIEC 006b, will be available for collection from October 21 to 28, 2024. Following this, electoral officers will verify candidates’ details on November 1, 2024.
The validation of candidates’ particulars will be completed by November 7, 2024, ensuring adherence to the legal requirements for the elections. The final list of nominated candidates will be published on November 8, 2024, and the elections themselves are scheduled for November 23, 2024.
With the timetable now available, political parties and stakeholders in Cross River State are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming local government elections, which are expected to influence local governance significantly.
CROSIEC has called on all political entities to follow the established guidelines and timelines to facilitate a smooth and equitable electoral process.
