Former Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has called on Ndigbo to reciprocate the good gesture shown to the region by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Anyim made this appeal during the flag-off ceremony of Section 1 of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Super Highway, held at Amuro in the Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to Anyim, only the president can connect Ndigbo to the centre. He therefore urged Igbo leaders to continue expressing gratitude to Tinubu.
His words: “This is not the only reason why we should be happy; Ebonyi people and Ndigbo have many reasons to be happy. Ebonyi people need to know that not only is the road going through Afikpo-Okigwe also ongoing, but Ndigbo needs to know that not only are we flagging off this today, but the Onitsha-Enugu road is also ongoing. Ndigbo needs to know also that not only are we gathered here today, but that the Port Harcourt-Enugu road is almost completed.”
He added, “Ndigbo needs to know that very soon a link road between the beach and Asaba will be completed so that the second Niger breech will be motorable. I want to say that we, as Igbos, have every reason to be grateful to Mr. President. So the representative of Mr. President is here with us; it will be our greatest desire that you convey this gratitude to Mr. President.”
“And if you ask me how you will convey this gratitude to Mr. President, I will say firstly, you will start by thanking Mr. President by appointing our son David Umahi, the Honourable Minister of Works, so we want to encourage every person of the Southeast, the political leaders, and the people of the Southeast that the time has come for us to return the gesture of Mr. President to Mr. President, and I know that this is a reason why many people believe that we must connect to the centre as the time comes. I think that one of the ways we must show this gratitude is to show our willingness to connect to the centre by standing with the President.”
“So today I’m standing forward to show that Ebonyi people are people who cherish our governor,” he said.
