The CP sounded the note of warning in Abuja at the weekend during the official launching of an innovative mobile app, Police-Hawk Eye Crime Reporting System to enhance the operations of the Command against insurgency, kidnapping and other violent crimes
He declared that the warning became necessary as the new technology would make it difficult if not impossible for such criminals to operate anywhere in the Command without being detected as the Combatant ready fighters operatives with new technology fitted Patrol Vans nearest to the scene of the incident would act promptly.
Kimo said that the era of being escaped after committing a crime in the Capital City and its environs had gone for good with the new development as the Command was not only fully ready to combat the criminals head-on, it would also chase out the existing ones from their dens
The Commissioner of Police who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP in charge of Operations in the Command,, Mr Arunguwa Nwazue stated that the Police was partnering with a leading technology Company to develop and deploy the new technology to combat all forms of crimes in the Country as against manual system currently being used by the Force.
He commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris for his support for the introduction of the new technology into crime fighting in the Country which he said would enhance the operational efficiency of the force and wipe out the rising cases of insurgency and kidnapping in the land
While demonstrating the new technology before the Press at the Control Room of the Command in Abuja, the developer of the Digital Hawk Eye, Mr Kayode Aladesuyi stated that formal launching of the system was a clear indication that the Nigeria Police Force, NPF was ready to partner communities and the public in order to continue to improve the security situation in the country.
According to him, “Hawk Eye is a revolutionary technology because of the enterprise tools it provides the police to respond address and manage crimes as soon as they are reported”.
He further explained that While the technology would allow the users to report crimes anonymously to the Police through the video , voice, or text messages, the app was part of a comprehensive security solution that involved the equipping the Police patrol vans with mobile devices Terminal and the revamping of the Police Command and the Control centers.
The Spokesman of the Command, DSP. Anjuguri Manzah told news men that the members of the Public could now download the Hawk Eye Crime Reporting app for free by selecting the type of to be reported, “Then capture the image. Video or call for help”
According to Manzah,” the system uses GPS location services on the user’s mobile phone to identify user’s location for immediate Police response”.
