Covenant-Keeping God

God is faithful. He says what He means, and He means what He says. He keeps His word. He fulfills His promises. He is a covenant-keeping God.

We must retain a sharp consciousness of this attribute of God. It is a much-needed contrast and relief for us at this time when we are surrounded by covenant-breaking men. Yes, covenant-breaking men –politicianswho promise and fail. Employers who promise and fail. Even employees who promise and fail. Husbands who promise and fail. Wives who promise and fail. All kinds of promise-and-fail people without respect for agreement are all over our land.

It is important to turn our attention to the covenant-keeping God, because He is the only one we can trust. If we dare trust in men, they will let us down. We have believed in them before, and we have been so heavily disappointed. It is time to stop believing in them and retrace our steps back to God. These covenant-breaking men cannot replaceJehovah Jireh – God our Provider.

We are in a time of great lack. We are in a time when people are hungry. We are in a time when people are frustrated. We are in a time when many are in urgent and great need of money. Drastic policy changes have affected our lives negatively. Wars and international conflicts of global significance have worsened the situation. And now, many people have become jobless. Many traders have had to close shop. Those who are still earning salaries (or whose businesses are still open) are besieged daily with requests from needy family and friends. In many places, the situation has become a case of“one rich man among six poor persons is equal to seven poor persons.” That is where we are now. So, this is the time that we just have to understand and rely upon God. In our power, we cannot cope financially with the time that we are in. We need Jehovah Jireh now, more than ever before. Surely, we will encounter Him as we dig deeper into His word.

The Bible assures us that the entrance of God’s word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple (Psalm 119: 130). Through His word, we gain an understanding of how God helps people to cope and make progress in times like this. Also, our Lord Jesus said that the words that He speaks to us, they are spirit and they are life (John 6: 63). The spirit and the life in God’s word will be imparted unto us as we study the Bible more intently, and we will become more than conquerors over all forms of distress.

Let us remain conscious of the fact that our God respects His word. A songwriter wrote about our God, saying:

You have a track record of keeping Your word

You’re not about to stop doing it now

That is our God. He says what He means, and He means what He says. He keeps His word. He is a covenant-keeping God. Trust Him.
