Court verdict is a victory for democracy ― Gana

PROFESSOR Jerry Gana on Friday declared that his victory at the court as the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, was a clear victory for democracy and assured that he was ready to work with the former candidate, Mr Donald Duke to the Patty to victory at the polls come next year.

Gana, who spoke at a crowded Press Conference in Abuja yesterday on the court verdict which pronounced him as the authentic Presidential Candidate of the SDP in the 2019 general elections said that President Muhammadu Buhari must be ready for a defeat in the 2019 presidential election.

Gana declared with the acceptability of the party across the country said with him as the presidential candidate of the party, Buhari’s days were President numbered as he would be defeated silly.

While joining calls by other opposition candidates for Buhari to sign the amended Electoral Bill, Prof Gana said every Nigerian, particularly the President, should be interested in processes that would guarantee free, fair and credible elections in the country.

Gana who promised to flag off his nationwide Presidential campaign next week assured that his campaign would be an issue based, Gana and added that the party would unveil a five-point agenda by then.

He, however, hinted that he would initiate moves to reconcile with the Donald Duke camp immediately for the party to go for the 2019 battle as a united family.

A court in Abuja had on Friday, voided the candidature Duke and declared Gana the presidential candidate of the SDP, declaring his victory at court as a victory for the party and for democracy.

According to him, “We are not going to victimise anybody because this victory is not for Jerry Gana but a victory for everybody.”

He expressed his readiness to abide by the Peace Pack already signed by another presidential candidate, saying that he was ready to go along with processes that will guarantee peaceful elections.

Prof Gana restated his commitment to the decision by the SDP to pull out of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

However, the leadership of the Party was yet to react over the court verdict as at the Press time.
