An Ile-Ife magistrates’ court, on Wednesday, remanded a 30-year-old woman, Zainab Musa, in custody for allegedly stealing yam worth N100,000.
Musa is standing trial on a two-count charge of unlawful entry and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Jimoh Irewole, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 22, 2025, at about 1am, at Iwaro farm in Ipetumodu, Ife North LGA of Osun.
Irewole said the defendant forcibly entered the farmland of one Mr Suberu Ganiyu and stole some tubers of yam valued at N100,000.
According to him, the offences contravene Section 4 of the Forcible Entry of Land (Prohibition) Law and Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2021 and 2002 respectively.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate O. B. Adeduwura ordered the remand of the defendant at Ipetumodu Divisional Police Headquarters.
Adeduwura adjourned the case until Feb. 3 for mention. (NAN)
