An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 44 -year-old security guard, Effiong Effiong, in Kirikiri Prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, ordered the remand of the accused pending presentation of facts and sentence at the next date of adjournment on Jan. 26.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase had told the court that the accused, who resides at Ipaja area of Lagos, committed the offence between September and December at Almadiya, Lagos.
Awase said that the accused allegedly stole his employer’s iron scraps valued at N350, 000, belonging to Opadisi Nigeria Ltd., Lagos.
“The accused stole and sold the company’s property without its consent,” he said.
Awase said that the complainant employed the services of the accused to watch its premises against theft of its property.
“A community member, who saw the accused selling the iron scraps to a truck pusher, informed the company management.
“The company checked its store and discovered that the accused had stolen and sold all its spare iron scraps.
“The accused, who confessed to the crime, claimed that he sold the scraps to a Malam at the rate of N11, 500,” he told the court.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
