An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Monday, ordered that two friends, who allegedly cloned a Facebook account belonging to a man, be remanded in Agodi Correctional Services, pending legal advice.
The Department of State Services charged Liberty Onah and Emeka Abakporoin with two counts of conspiracy and cloning of account.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olawale Adisa, did not take the plea of the defendants, pending the arraignment of the defendants in a Lagos High court.
Adisa, thereafter, adjourned the matter until November eight, for mention.
According to the DSS, Onah and Abakporo between March and June, allegedly conspired together to commit the offence of Identity theft.
The prosecution alleged that Onah and Abakporo fraudulently impersonated Mr Abel Achi by cloning his Facebook Account with intent to gain an advantage for themselves.
The offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 22 (2), (3) (a) and section 27 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act 2015.
