Court bars APC from conducting congresses in Rivers

Published by

A State High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has issued a restraining order preventing the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from proceeding with ward and local government congresses.

The ruling came in response to a motion ex parte brought before the court by Peter Ohochukwu and Hajia Ndidi-Chukwuma.

Justice Godwin Ollor, who presided over the case, issued a court order that bars the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola-Basiru; and the APC itself from conducting the scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses set for October 11th, 16th, and 26th, 2024.

The court’s decision also restricts the defendants from supervising, holding, monitoring, or otherwise conducting elections related to the formation of the Rivers State executive committee.

Additionally, the national leadership of the APC is prohibited from enacting any plan to suspend the current state executive led by Emeka Beke.

The case has been adjourned to September 9th for the hearing of the motion on notice.

This development follows a statement by the sacked chairman, Tony Okocha, who asserted that the party would not participate in the forthcoming council elections.
