The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned a tax evasion suit against Binance Holdings Limited and its top officials, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla till the 19th of April, 2024.
The case was adjourned on Thursday following the FIRS’ inability to serve Gambaryan the charges in EFCC custody.
The alleged money laundering case instituted by the EFCC is however underway.
The Binance official that appeared in court, was arraigned before Justice Nwite who has a special order to hear the case due to its grave national implications.
The charges against the defendants include money laundering and operating specialized businesses in Nigeria without the requisite license, constituting a five-count indictment.
Binance Holdings Limited is also accused of failing to register with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to fulfil its tax obligations by allegedly neglecting to issue invoices to subscribers on its trading platform, thereby avoiding payment of value-added taxes.
Tribune online reported that airport intelligence failure aided Binance officials’ escape. However, Binance released an official statement on Wednesday, 3rd of April that the Employee of Binance still in custody in Nigeria is not part of Binance management.
