The Rivers State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Moses Oleghe, has charged corps members to use the rich cultural heritage of Nigerians to promote and propagate peace and prosperity in the country.
He gave the charge during the inter-platoon cultural carnival competition for 2025 Batch C corps members deployed to Rivers orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai.
Addressing the corps members, Oleghe charged them to be a source of light in their host communities, noting that the “symbolic lighting of the cultural carnival torch means that every corps member must be the light that dispels darkness.”
He urged them to integrate and internalise the culture of the people of their area where they serve, strengthen their culture where it is good, and help them bring positive reform in areas where the cultural practices are crude and brutal.
The event witnessed the regeneration and rebirth of various ethnic cultures by the corps members.
At the end of the competition, four platoon was adjudged the overall best, nine platoon second and six platoon third.
