A middle-aged man, identified as Monday, was beaten to death for allegedly stealing copper wire. Two suspects have been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for other members of the mob responsible for the killing.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune, stating that Monday was a construction worker.
The event took place around the Ikeja area of Lagos on Sunday, September 29, 2024, and was reported at the Alausa Divisional Police Station.

According to Hundeyin, the police received a report around 4 p.m. from a complainant who said he had been informed by a family member that Monday had been beaten to death after being accused of stealing copper wire.
Initial police investigations revealed that Monday had been tied with copper wire around his neck and legs before his attackers continued beating him until he died.
After realizing that Monday had died, the mob fled the scene, but police were able to arrest two individuals identified as Akeem Ahmed and Samuel Lamak.
Officers from the Alausa Division visited the scene, and Monday’s body was recovered and sent to the Mainland General Hospital in Yaba for preservation and autopsy.
Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed, the corpse of the deceased was recovered and evacuated to the mortuary at the mainland general hospital, Yaba, Lagos State for preservation and autopsy, while investigation was ongoing on the matter.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olarewaju, has vowed to ensure that all those involved in the murder of the young man are arrested and face justice.
