The Iyaloja of Agosasa, Chief Mrs Asabi Aderohunmu, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State to consider the community as the next destination for an economic hub in the state. According to her, Agosasa, which is one of the border communities, deserves an international market due to its proximity to Nigeria’s border.
Chief Aderohunmu made the call while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of Dardolips Information Global Technology, Damilare Abioro, in her office in Agosasa. She emphasised that increased commercial activities along border communities would boost the economic development of the state.
The first Iyaloja of Agosasa explained that the congestion of companies along the Agbara axis has prompted the state government to move to the Sagamu Interchange area for the establishment of new companies. She added that such developmental strides should be extended to Agosasa, which is strategically located in the Gateway State, especially near the Idiroko border.
According to her, state government intervention is needed in areas such as the construction of ultra-modern markets, a good road network to link the market, portable water, and other social amenities to attract prospective investors.
“I appeal to our governor to look into the business potentials of Agosasa with the establishment of international markets in our community. Many farmers still have to take their produce to other parts of the state to sell. If we have such a market, investors will be willing to come and establish their businesses because they will source their materials locally.
“If you look at Agbara, it is fully occupied, and the government has moved to the Sagamu Interchange because of the road’s location for travellers from other parts of the country. That is why I am asking for the same development close to the Idiroko border,” the Iyaloja of Agosasa stated.
Aderohunmu, while appreciating her fellow business owners and traders, further called for the state government’s support to tackle unemployment, noting that many youths, especially graduates, are without jobs in the state. She also pleaded with the federal government to consider the residents of the border communities concerning some of its policies, especially the border closure, multiple security checkpoints, extortion, and the ban on petrol sales, which are adversely affecting the livelihood and economy of the residents in the area.
