Comparing us to past govts shows we’re doing well ―Osinbajo

VICE President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday noted that comparing the performance of this administration with past governments shows that the administration is doing well.

Speaking on Tuesday in a Dinner/Gala Night to mark the 2018 Democracy Day, he said even though the administration was just three years old, some people were comparing them to the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments, “which shows we are doing well.”

Osinbajo thanked Nigerians and guests who showed up for the event at the Conference Hall of the presidential villa, Abuja.

Also speaking, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, assured that as the administration goes into the fourth year, good things will begin to happen.

“As we go into the fourth year, I can assure you that good things are about to happen,” he said.

Drawing on the Democracy Day Public lecture delivered by former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, Mustapha counselled that people must tell themselves the truth to enable the nation to move forward.

He noted that Jega spoke the truth to the three arms of government, adding: “it’s high time we tell ourselves the truth if we want to see change and development in this country,” Mustapha declared.

Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung presented the Nigerian contingent to this year’s Commonwealth Games to Vice President.

He said athletes who won medals at the event had been given cash rewards with gold medal winners getting $5,000 each; silver medal winners, $3,000 and $2,000 for those who won bronze medals.

He revealed that all the Nigerian athletes tested for drugs in the games came out clean, which he attributed to the stringent anti-doping measures taken by the Nigerian authorities.

The minister confirmed that Super Eagles and their handlers will be received by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the presidential villa before they jet out to London for the friendly against their England counterparts.
