The Students’ Union of the University of Ilorin, has held the 3rd edition of her press conference.
Addressing reporters, the Students’ Union President, Com. Abimbola Ridwan said the event is to unveil the union programmes in the 2017/2018 session and keep the students abreast of the state of the union.
He added that the union executive has been working assiduously since assumption of office, pointing out series of meeting they have had with different units of the University.
While Speaking, Ridwan noted that part of the union programmes for the session include; 1st edition of Students’ Union essay contest, entrepreneurship program and leadership training amongst others.
“We have made frantic effort to ease the hardship faced by the students, especially in the terms of Transportation and Accommodation. The union has partnered with some transport authorities to acquire more shuttles and we now as well have new hostels for the students on campus” he said.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor on Management Services, Prof A.Y Abdulkareem who represented the Vice Chancellor Prof Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, said Unilorin is committed to produce graduates who are worthy both in character and learning, which has made university the most sought after by admission seekers.
He pointed out that over the years, the University is proud to say that her Students has been conducting themselves in a proper manner and thereby urge them to be committed to their academic programmes, shun cultism and ensure they have social interaction within the specified limit of their stay in the University.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Alex Akanmu, the Sub Dean Students’ Affairs Unit of the school said the Students’ Affairs Unit is committed to the welfare of the students. He noted, that the students should not hesitate to visit the unit whenever they have issues troubling them. He also urged them to always be security conscious and avoid free ride by strangers.
While giving the vote of thanks, Com. Oyewumi Muftau the Students’ Union P.R.O, expressed gratitude to the University management, the students and members of the press, as well as everyone who graced the event.
Also present at the event were Dr. A. Odunola who represented the Director Unilorin Health Service, Mr. Adegoke-Deputy Registrar of the Students’ Affairs, members of the Students’ Union Central Executive and Senate Council.
