Obia Uchechukwu Divine, popularly known by his stage name Funnyurch, is making waves in the entertainment industry as a fast-rising writer, actor, and comedian. From Abia State, the Aba-born entertainer has steadily built a career that has taken him from local stages to international recognition.
Funnyurch first discovered his passion for performance through stand-up comedy, winning over audiences with his witty delivery and infectious stage presence. His breakthrough came when he transitioned into acting, featuring as “Innocent” in the popular TV sitcom Flatmates. Over time, his craft evolved, allowing him to tour across 20 Nigerian states, performing for audiences of more than 5,000 people before expanding his reach beyond Africa.
In recent years, he has performed in Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom, gracing stages in cities such as London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Newcastle. He appeared at renowned venues including Hot Water Comedy Club (Liverpool), Big Belly Comedy Club (London), and Up the Creek Comedy Club (London). During his UK tour, he recorded a mini comedy special which has now earned him multiple nominations at international film festivals.
At the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF), Funnyurch has been nominated in six categories including; Best Stand-Up Comedy, Best Comedy Performance (International), Best Comedy Performance and Best Comedy Assemble among others.
Meanwhile, at the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival, his UK-recorded mini comedy special also earned him a nomination for Best Mini Comedy Special.
With these accolades under his belt, Funnyurch is now returning home to Nigeria for one of the biggest milestones of his career. For the first time, he will headline his own comedy show in Lagos titled ‘That Aba Boy’, a one-hour comedy special called ‘Dreams and Thoughts’. The event will take place at Terra Kulture on September 7 and is expected to showcase the comedian’s signature humor, fresh perspectives, and energetic stage craft.

Speaking about his journey, the comedian, who proudly brands himself as the POS Boy, expressed excitement about this new chapter, noting that this is only the beginning of what he hopes will be a long career of recognition, awards, and global impact.
As he prepares to host his first-ever comedy special in Nigeria, Funnyurch’s story stands as an inspiring testament to the rising influence of Nigerian comedians on both local and international stages.
