Renown Nigerian musician and producer, Cobhams Asuquo has revealed he made the theme song for the current BBNaijaAllStars season 8.
With a video post on Instagram, he showed viewers the behind the scenes of making the song.
Many find it unbelievable that Cobhams is visually impaired and outstanding with music instruments like the piano.
Interestingly, there are some uniqueness about this producer that transcends his excellent ability to piece beautiful tunes together.
Here’s some background information about the fantastic businessman.
Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo was born on January 6, 1981, in Jos, Plateau State. He grew up in military cantonments in Jos and Lagos, Nigeria. Asquo was born visually impaired. After his secondary education, he hoped to become a lawyer and build a career that would eventually lead him to the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
During his primary and secondary days, he joined various debate clubs and always participated in writing competitions, winning both local and state recognition for his gifted talent.
He decided to further his studies in the University of Lagos. However, some errors made during his admission process jeopardized his entire academic journey. This caused him to drop out in his third year to focus on music.
Although, Asuquo started developing his talent at the age of 6. Growing up, he was found using all things to make beat sounds within his family’s house. The producer started by puffing his cheeks and playing the 12 Blues, using dining utensils. Notably, he also involved his body and paid close attention to the nuance of pitch, tone, and timbre.
At the age of 7, he entertained his neighbours with the song he had composed using whatever object he could use. At the age of 10, he participated in positioning music for his school’s band and guided himself in learning the keyboard.
When he was between the ages of 13 and 19, he would often pay visits to music studios, finding opportunities for figuring out the thrill of creating music. Asuquo would often lend his voice to background vocals he produced for other artists. He often ended spending nights in the studios with the secret longing to own a studio.
He came into limelight in 2007, when he became publicly known by all as a singer and performer. He went viral after he featured in a Nigerian campus favourite, Mo Like Jesu Gan by Dekunle Fuji.
Asuquo established his first record label and music production business, Cobhams Asuquo Music Production (CAMP), in 2008. He founded Vintage Gray Media Ltd. in 2016. The music countdown programme “The Top 12 Countdown with Cobhams Asuquo,” which aimed to highlight new music, was produced in 74 episodes by Vintage Gray Media Ltd.
On his birthday, January 6, 2018, Asuqauo released a song that became a quick hit. The following year, the song became people’s inspiration. In the same year, his single dropped in September and got approved for its mainstream Nigerian sound.
Asuquo’s international fame grew in relation to other Nigerian soul performers, like Asa’s debut album. Multiple Nigerian and foreign musicians have collaborated with him. He has a large archive of artists under his management, including Asa, BankyW, Dare Art-Alade, Waje, Timi Dakolo, Djinne etc.
Asuquo is married to the love of his life, Ojuola Asuquo Olukanni, a music producer and singer, on the 2nd of December, 2020. The couple is blessed with two sons.
