The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), the umbrella body representing youth groups from across the six geopolitical zones, has expressed its support for the vote of confidence passed by the Council of State on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The coalition commended President Tinubu for his performance in just over a year in office, stating that his achievements reflect the sentiments of many Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Owerri, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, President General of CONYL, highlighted the significance of the Council of State, which comprises former Presidents, Heads of State, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving and retired Chief Justices of Nigeria, as well as state governors.
Ibem described the vote of confidence from these experienced leaders as confirmation that President Tinubu is on the right track to advancing Nigeria. He said:
“Nigerian youths are on the same page with the Council of State and unanimously pass a Vote of Confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the people-orientated policies and programmes of his administration, which have already started yielding positive fruits for the advancement and development of the country.”
CONYL also addressed recent protests, labelling them not as genuine demonstrations but as attempts by disgruntled elements to cause unrest and disturbances. The group condemned the destruction and looting of properties, stating:
“A genuine protest does not involve the destruction or looting of government and personal property. However, in the so-called protest, a lot of properties and goods belonging to hard-working Nigerians were destroyed and looted.”
The coalition noted that some protesters were seen carrying and waving the flags of the Republic of Russia, which they described as an insurrection and an act of treason against Nigeria. They criticised these actions as criminal and contrary to the principles of a legitimate protest.
Ibem concluded by asserting that Nigeria is mature enough to recognise good governance and emphasised:
“President Tinubu has performed creditably well, and the Council of State has spoken the mind of Nigerians.”
