CLO lauds Obiano for improving business environment in Anambra

THE Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), has applauded Gov Willie Obiano for taking steps to improve trade and business environment in Anambra.

The Chairman of CLO in Anambra, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, gave the commendation while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday.

Ezekwueme said that the recent massive clamp down on age-long illegal government revenue agents was highly commendable and people-oriented as well.

He noted that the move would check illegal taxes and collections as well as multiple taxations on businesses and business areas in the state.

“CLO thanks Obinao for his recent clampdown on illegal revenue agents and their sponsors in the state.

“We also thank the Commissioner of Police in the state for working in tandem with Obiano on the recent breakthrough in apprehending, detaining and prosecuting of most dreadful armed robbers and kidnappers in the state.

“Doing away with illegal taxation and collections as well as insecurity helps to improve business confidence and environment for both petty traders and established businessmen and women,’’ he said.

According to him, CLO commends the state Commissioner for Information for telling the government what they needed to know and contributing immensely toward recent clampdown on illegal government revenue agents in the state.

Ezekwueme, however, urged Obiano to beam his searchlight on the unprecedented corruptions in various markets, especially the seizure of shops and unaccounted levies being imposed on traders by market leaders.

“The CLO commends Obiano for attracting the Chinese Ambassador to Anambra and for his promise to build the Chinese embassy in Awka.

“This will not only reduce the stress and economic loss to the citizens of the state travelling to Abuja or Lagos, but it will also boost and help sustain the economy of the state,’’ he said.
