Nollywood epic movie, Labake Olododo, starring Iyabo Ojo as the eponymous lead character is the trending topic in Nigeria at the moment.
Shooting began on the movie six months ago at Ibadan so it was only fitting that those who made it happen returned there to show appreciation for the support and promote the movie. Abayomi Olukanmi, CEO of Abazee Productions, Iyabo Ojo, lead actress of epic film Labake Olododo, and Alaba Ultimate, were in Ibadan to promote the most anticipated Nollywood film of the year so far.
Ibadan’s geographical landscape as well as its rich history of being the home of the first TV station in Africa, first Nigerian University, first University teaching hospital and first sports stadium in Africa, provided fodder for Labake Olododo to be what it is: a pre-colonial Yoruba epic with English subtitles mixing comedy, drama, romance with themes of loyalty, power struggles, and leadership. It boasts a who’s who cast of Nollywood: Afeez Owo, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Fathia Balogun, Olumide Oworu, Tayo Faniran and directed by award-winning director Biodun Stephen.
Speaking about their mission on coming to the city Iyabo Ojo said, “Tayo Faniran and Olumide Oworu, will be available at the cinemas here in Ibadan for a meet-and-greet with fans, alongside myself, Abazee and Alaba. We shot the film here so it’s a special place for us.” Abayomi Olukanmi added, “I’m from Ibadan so this is also a homecoming for me, and I’m happy that we got to show a part of Nigeria that people don’t usually see on the big screen.”
Labake Olododo is in cinemas nationwide from Friday the 28th of March, 2025.
