CitrusCV hits over 10,000 users, aims to redefine how Africans apply for jobs

CitrusCV open-source platform is challenging traditional resume building by making job applications smarter, faster, and free.

Finding a job has never been more competitive, especially across Africa, where millions of young people enter the labour market each year with limited access to career-building resources. In this landscape, CitrusCV, the free and open-source AI career tool developed by Nigerian Software engineer Charles Ayere, is emerging as a bold new solution.

In just three months, CitrusCV has helped over 10,000 job seekers generate high-quality resumes and cover letters customised for specific job applications, offering a smarter, faster, and more accessible alternative to traditional resume-building methods.

CitrusCV was built to solve a familiar but frustrating problem: the difficulty of creating professional, job-specific applications without paying for expensive career services or struggling with generic templates.

Through a simple, user-friendly platform, CitrusCV enables users to input a job description and their career details and automatically generates customized resumes and cover letters tailored for each application.

“I realized that the traditional method of sending the same resume to every employer simply doesn’t work anymore,” Ayere explains. “Recruiters are looking for relevance and fit and CitrusCV empowers candidates to show exactly that, without having to become professional writers or pay high fees.”

Unlike conventional resume builders locked behind paywalls, CitrusCV is completely free and open source, enabling anyone from fresh graduates to mid-career professionals to access career-building tools without financial barriers.

Beyond its immediate functionality, CitrusCV is structured as an open-source project, welcoming developers, designers, HR professionals, and educators to contribute ideas, improvements, and features. This approach ensures the platform stays relevant and adaptable while also fostering a global community invested in the future of career development.

“I chose to make it open source because innovation should be collective,” Ayere says. “We want CitrusCV to grow with the community, reflecting the real needs of job seekers in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.”

Already, contributors have suggested features like multilingual support, CV templates for specific industries, and AI-driven career advice illustrating how a collaborative model can drive rapid improvement.

Since its launch, CitrusCV has been quietly making a dent in the way job seekers approach the application process, particularly among young Nigerians entering the workforce. The platform’s growth trajectory reflects a wider shift: as digital tools reshape industries across Africa, there is increasing demand for technology that not only solves problems but does so inclusively.

Ayere’s goal for CitrusCV is ambitious but clear: help one million Africans land better jobs by 2026.

The roadmap ahead includes partnerships with universities, career centres, and employment agencies to expand access and support. CitrusCV is also exploring integrations with job boards and professional networking platforms to streamline the job search even further.

As more industries embrace remote work, global talent mobility, and skills-based hiring, the ability to present oneself effectively is becoming more important than ever.

Platforms like CitrusCV represent more than just a tool, they embody a movement towards a fairer, more accessible labour market where opportunity is not determined by background or financial capacity.

With a growing user base, an active community, and a bold vision for the future, CitrusCV is not just helping people find jobs, it is helping them shape their futures on their own terms.
