Christmas: Nigerians are suffering, Anglican Bishop tells Tinubu

Anglican Bishop of Lagos, His Lordship, Right Reverend Senasu Okupevi, while speaking with Journalists after the Christmas Service held at Christ Cathedral Marina on Wednesday, appealed to President Tinubu to relax some of his harsh policies come 2025, saying, “Nigerians are suffering.”

“The hardship is much, the new tax reform that the government is proposing, we don’t know how it will affect the masses. We are appealing to the President to look at the plight of the common man and make policies that will alleviate their suffering,” he said.

On the issue of subsidy removal, the clergy said that he is in support of the subsidy removal but against the manner subsidy was removed without adequate planning.

“The outcome of the subsidy removal is affecting Nigerians. The government should find a way to reduce the suffering of the people,” he added.

The Governor of Lagos State, who attended the Christmas Service at Chest Cathedral Marina on Wednesday, told Journalists that the state would put in place more security measures to reduce crime in the state, adding that the daily influx of persons into Lagos for economic purposes to watch to avoid insecurity in the state.

The Governor asked Nigerians to be patient with the current federal government led by President Tinubu.

“We are aware of the economic situation in the country, and the President is working hard to reduce the economic situation,” he said.
