Of Chibok girls, Boko Haram

Whoever chooses to throw stones into the market should also get ready to take his relations to the clinic because they might be in the market during the raining of the stones and probably get hurt.

The release of Boko Haram members by the Federal Government in exchange for the freedom of some Chibok girls is what impelled the writing of this piece.

The government’s decision to swap the terrorists with Chibok Girls is indeed synonymous with trade by barter.

It is no longer hidden that those who before now condemned the idea of negotiating with terrorists are the same people initiating the negotiation.

Therefore, every reasonable person should be happy with the release of the Chibok girls who have been in captivity for long but at the same time be angry with the government for setting  Boko Haram members free, despite their bombing and killing of the innocent souls, coupled with the destructions of property worth billions, if not trillions of naira.

These Boko Haram terrorists were released by the Federal Government because they still have  over 100 girls in their custody.

Before now, the administration under the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan wanted to do same by swapping the arrested Boko Haram members with the Chibok Girls but members of the then opposition party, APC, opposed the idea and condemned it in totality, accusing Jonathan’s government of being submissive to the  terrorists.

It is important to recall that before the current administration came to power, APC tagged the idea of negotiating with the terrorists  an embarrassment to the nation and a defeat of Jonathan’s government but the same party is in power now using the same idea as the best option for the release of the abducted Chibok girls.

Nevertheless, no one should accuse me of taking sides with the previous administration because I was one of those who constantly criticised the former president and his team.

I must continue to ask why APC is doing things that its members were against when they were not in government.

The people who were against the removal of the fuel subsidy came into power and removed the subsidy completely.

The people who opposed travelling outside the country to seek for medical attention are now in power and they have changed their views.

Thank God that 2019 is very near and we still have our PVCs.
