Celebrating women: Resilience, growth and commitment to self-care

THE celebration of women goes beyond a single day. Throughout this month and beyond, we continue to honor the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in every walk of life. As we round up this month of celebrating women and the spirit of International Women’s Day, I want to shine a light on a group of women whose courage often goes unnoticed, the single mothers. These incredible women wake up every day, carrying the weight of both parenthood and personal challenges, yet they push forward with unwavering determination

To every single mother out there, your sacrifices, resilience, and love are seen and appreciated. Life may have taken unexpected turns, but your story is still being written, one of strength, perseverance, and hope. But let’s be clear, your story does not end here. There is still room to grow, to build, and to thrive. No matter where you find yourself, adding value to your life is always possible. If more education is needed to open new doors, go for it. If learning a skill can create opportunities, embrace it. Your journey is not just about survival, it is about becoming the best version of yourself while raising children who will make you proud.

Raising children is one of the greatest responsibilities in life, and it requires love, wisdom, and patience. Our daughters should be taught confidence, self-respect, and independence so they grow up knowing their worth. But while we empower our daughters, we must not neglect our sons.

Today, substance abuse is becoming a silent pandemic, and many young boys fall victim because they lack proper guidance. A mother’s presence, understanding, and close relationship with her children, both boys and girls can make all the difference. Children need to know they are loved, valued, and supported, and this begins at home. Staying involved in their lives, having open conversations, and teaching them right from wrong will shape their future and ultimately determine how they contribute to society.

For women who are separated or facing marital struggles, it is important to look at the situation carefully. Some relationships can still be mended if both partners are willing to work things out, and in such cases, setting aside pride and focusing on what is best for the children is a wise decision.

However, if a marriage has broken down irretrievably or has become abusive, then, walking away is the best option. No woman should remain in a situation where her peace, mental health, or physical safety is at risk. Moving on is not a sign of failure but a step toward a healthier and more fulfilling life. Every woman deserves to be in a space where she feels valued, respected, and safe.

While women focus on providing for their families and securing a better future, health must never be overlooked. It is easy to get carried away with the demands of life, working tirelessly to make ends meet, but what is the use of money if health begins to fail?

What we eat, how well we care for our bodies, and the amount of rest we allow ourselves all play a role in the quality of life we will have in the years to come. Eating healthy foods, staying active, and going for regular medical checkups should be a priority, not an afterthought. Women give so much of themselves to others, but self-care is not selfish, it is necessary.

To the young girls of today, life does not begin at a certain age. The foundation of your future is being laid right now with every choice you make. Do not wait until you are older to start taking life seriously. Invest in yourself, learn, grow, and prepare for the life you dream of.

Social media is a powerful tool, but it can also be a great distraction. Do not let it take your future away from you. Use your time wisely, focus on things that matter, and build a future that you will be proud of.

For older women, life should be enjoyed, not endured. The later years are a time to focus on health, happiness, and giving back to the world in meaningful ways. Staying active, going for health checkups, and engaging in activities that bring joy are all part of living well.

There is also great value in sharing experiences and wisdom with younger generations. The lessons learned over the years can guide and inspire those who are just beginning their journey. Every woman, no matter her age, has something valuable to offer.

This month and beyond, we continue to celebrate every woman, single mothers, young girls, working professionals, and elderly women. We honor resilience, courage, and the unwavering ability to rise above challenges.

The spirit of International Women’s Day goes beyond a single date, it’s a continuous reminder to uplift, support, and empower one another. As you navigate life’s journey, don’t forget to take care of your mental and physical health. Be proud of every achievement, no matter how small, because you are doing well.

When women thrive, the whole world benefits. Let’s keep the celebration going!
