In an effort aimed at enhancing technical skills and promoting economic empowerment, a leading manufacturer of paints and coatings in the country, the Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) PLC, has successfully conducted its first NABTEB-certified assessments for trainees at the CAP Painters Academy.
The groundbreaking assessment, carried out in partnership with the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), evaluated 31 trainees on both the theoretical and practical components of the painting and decoration module. This marks a crucial advancement in providing nationally recognised, industry-aligned training for Nigerian painters.
The partnership between CAP PLC and NABTEB was formalised in September to professionalise Nigeria’s decorative paints sector.
Combining CAP’s industry expertise with NABTEB’s certification framework birthed a collaboration that “ensures that the trainees not only acquire world-class techniques but also gain credentials that enhance their employability, professional credibility, and entrepreneurial potential.”
Managing Director of CAP PLC, Bolarin Okunowo, emphasised the significance of this milestone: “This event represents an important evolution for the CAP Painters Academy.
“By integrating nationally recognised testing and certification, we are strengthening the pipeline of qualified painters and equipping young people with skills that provide real economic opportunities.
“We are proud of the participants who completed the assessments and are eager to expand this initiative across the country.”
She noted that these assessments align with CAP PLC’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s human capital by bridging skills gaps within the painting profession, improving quality standards across the value chain, and increasing access to technical training.
Since its establishment in 2019, the CAP Painters Academy has trained and certified over 6,000 painters across 17 states, providing them with practical skills, technical knowledge, and pathways to self-reliance and entrepreneurship in the decorative paints industry.
