The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed materials for the by-election scheduled for Saturday in Akure North/Akure South federal constituency of Ondo State.
Speaking during the distribution of the materials, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador (Dr) Rufus Akeju, said all the result sheets for the 408 polling units have been signed by him, saying it was to ensure the results of the election from each polling unit is fool-proof.
Akeju assured that Saturday’s election will be free, fair and credible to a certain extent, urging the residents of the two local governments to go out and exercise their civic duties by voting for candidates of their choice.
The REC explained that he appended his signature on the result sheets in order to authenticate it and to prevent unscrupulous people who might want to engage in electoral malpractices.
The Head, Operations, INEC headquarters, Mr Yusuf AbdulRazaak, said the signing of the result sheets was to ensure the results of the election from each polling unit is fool-proof, saying, the REC appended his signature on the right top corner of the Form EC 8B(II) for uniformity.
