African Giant, Burna Boy and a social media user Derah exchanged words, after she said African artistes especially Nigerian artistes, uses the ‘African suffering’ script/story for their own gain. In the full comment which she shared on her page @BIGDera_, the music critic said: “Bruh, I hate it whenever African artistes especially a Nigerian artiste uses the ‘African suffering’ script/story for their own gain. Burna does that sh*t, and he needs to stop it asap! Stop making us look like we live in the Jungle. Stop Man! This is what brings insults to our name and pride fgs”.
She then went on about how Burna Boy was the only African/Nigerian artiste who had nothing good to say about Africa, and how he was making it look like Africans are suffering and living in Jungle with his style of music. A style of music according to her, he was making for his own selfish gain.
Burna Boy wasted no time in replying, to clarify that he in fact wasn’t singing songs about liberating the African race for his own selfish gains. The hit maker responded on his Instagram page @burnaboygram.
“First of all, ain’t no “WE” You live in the UK and probably only come to Africa for holidays. You and anybody that thinks like you deserve the worst in life and the afterlife. You think I need to sing about the truth of the African suffering to gain? Dumb b****! It takes more away from me, my pockets, and my family to sing the truth like I have always done. I would be way more comfortable and Richer if I didn’t sing the truth about my society. If I wasn’t the MAN I am or if I didn’t have so much integrity, I could have accepted the numerous Millions of dollars I’ve been offered by African politicians.”
Burna further clarified that nobody was more versatile than him in the Nigerian music industry when it comes to making songs that are not about activism, but he also chose to speak the truth no matter what.
