Renowned music video director, Clarence Peters, has declared Burna Boy the biggest artist in Nigeria, attributing the Grammy winner’s dominance to his commanding stage presence, technical brilliance, and commitment to performance excellence.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Peters praised Burna Boy’s passion for live performances and his strategic approach to building a brand rooted in professionalism and charisma.
“Burna Boy is the biggest Nigerian artist, hands down, because Burna Boy loves being on stage, but also understands what he needs to be on stage,” Peters said.
“He’s become technically sound because he’s been garnished with people who are technically sound, because that’s important to him.”
Peters further emphasised that beyond talent, what truly sets an artist apart is star power, a rare quality he believes Burna Boy embodies.
Drawing comparisons between the music and film industries, the filmmaker noted that audiences are drawn not just to skill, but to the magnetic presence of stars.
“There’s a difference between an amazing actor and a star. The personality and charisma of the actor, the star power, is what people go to see. It’s the same with music,” he added.
