PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been named the new Chairperson of the Economic Community for a West African States (ECOWAS).

President Buhari succeeds President Faure Gnassingbe of the Republic of Togo.
The ECOWAS appointment came on Tuesday evening at an extraordinary meeting of the body in Lome, Togo.
