AILING President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to hand over power to his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and proceed for a thorough medical attention.
This came as the president was, for the fourth time, conspicuously absent on Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, creating scurry among Nigerians in the process.
Former secretary general of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and chieftain of All People’s Congress (APC), Chief Frank Kokori and Chief Henry Ofa, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Delta State made the submission on Wednesday.
Kokori, while speaking with Tribune Online on phone, however, admonished Nigerians to persist in their intercession for the ailing president, adding that he meant will for the country.
“We should continue to pray for him. I know his health challenges are making him not to perform optimally, but he’s a good man.
He wants to fight the three cardinal monsters: corruption, Boko Haram and economy.
It’s his health that’s worrying him and people like us are also praying for him so that he can Nigeria out of the woods.
I’m one of those people who believe he’s the only person that can rid Nigeria of corruption.
He was able to uproot the PDP octopus, if not it would have been difficult. Corruption would have mounted beyond measure.
We leave everything in the hands of God; let His will be done, “the fiery labour activist stated.
While urging Buhari to return for medical vacation, Chief Kokori, however kicked against forceful removal of the president from office as a result of ill-health.
He should go for medical vacation again, but I’m one of those saying they should not remove him forcefully.
He should hand over power to the VP who’s been doing well. He’s quite competent and capable to lead Nigeria,” the septuagenarian averred.
Chief Kokori, a staunch supporter of Buhari, also have a word for the cabal, which he described as an “invisible” group of people.
According to the APC chieftain, “people should not force him (Buhari) to remain in power to protect their interest.
The cabal is an invisible group, nobody knows them. Like I said, he has a competent VP he should hand over to him while he proceeds on medical leave.
They should not force him to remain there since he can’t perform optimally, because at the end of the day, it’s Nigeria that’ll suffer even as many files are left unattended to, now.
The man should go for medical vacation while we continue to support him. I’ll support him to the end.”
On his part, Chief Ofa urged Buhari to disclose his actual health status to Nigerians being a public servant.
“We should all pray to God that Buhari should recover quickly and if his health is not too good, he should also tell us the true position of it.
As a public servant, he cannot be hiding his health status from us. He should tell us the true position of his health, but we should pray for him, “the former commissioner of DESOPADEC noted.
