Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Sunday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to commence the process of restructuring the country by engaging stakeholders in the project without further delay.
“The president should engage restructuring without further delay,” Afenifere demanded.
The group made the demand in reaction to the Independence Day nationwide broadcast made to Nigerians by the president, saying it was noteworthy that Buhari recognised the calls for restructuring as legitimate.
Spokesperson of the group, Mr Yinka Odumakin, said this while speaking with Tribune Online on phone, charging President Buhari to build on his new move to engage what the group described as “strident calls.”
Afenifere, however, charged President Buhari not to make mistake by seeing calls for restructuring as amounting to the break-up of the country, rather it was his refusal to address calls for restructuring that was brewing separatist feelings across the country and not demand restructuring.
“He (Buhari) should, however, not mistake restructuring for break-up. It is the refusal to address restructuring that is brewing separatist feelings and not demand restructuring,” Afenifere said.
