THE newly appointed Secretary to the Government of Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari, has deep compassion for the suffering of Nigerian masses.
He, however, pledged that the administration would recover the lost ground and assuage the plight of the people.
Mustapha, spoke on Wednesday in Abuja, soon after the mantle of leadership of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation was handed over to him by the Acting SGF, Mrs Habiba Lawal at a brief ceremony in his office.
He commended Lawal for her sterling performance during the period she acted as the SGF following the suspension of the former SGF, Babachir Lawal by the President over corrupt allegations.
He said: “We have the responsibility of ensuring that this government succeeds. If this government does not succeed, it means that we have not done our jobs well.
“We are supposed to coordinate the policies of this government, monitor the implementation of policies and ensure that the right thing is done,” he said.
He noted that if one touches the heartbeat of President Buhari, “he has compassion for the suffering people of this nation”.
The SGF added that the Nigerian people have been pauperised for a long time and that it was time all hands are put on deck to ensure that the government deliver on its mandate.
He said it was the desire of President Buhari that the vicious cycle of poverty that has kept the nation on its kneels is frontally addressed.
He said with cooperation of the Nigerian people, including the public servants this turnaround could be achieved in a couple of months and years.
He noted that the Civil servants have the capacity to craft solutions to the myriad challenges being faced by the nation, saying he did not foresee any impossibility in reversing the negative trends of the country.
Acting SGF, Lawal, earlier in her remark noted that the workers would give all the necessary cooperate to the SGF to succeed.
She said it was unfortunate that she did not have the opportunity of getting any handover note from the former SGF, because of the unceremonious exit and suspension.
