…offers N150,000 monthly allowance
BUA Cement Plc has commenced a specialised vocational training programme for 60 youths from Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, as part of its commitment to community development and youth empowerment.
The six-month intensive training targeted young people from host communities and aimed to equip them with skills in operating heavy earth-moving machinery, a move designed to increase their employability in the cement and construction sectors.
Speaking, the Managing Director of BUA Cement, Yusuf Binji, represented by Bashir Aminu, said the programme was initiated after the company observed that many job openings in the past could not be filled by local youths due to lack of the required technical skills.
“We realised that many youths from our host communities were missing out on employment opportunities because they lacked the necessary qualifications and training.
“This programme is our response to that gap to equip them with lifetime skills that will open doors for them, either with BUA or elsewhere,” Binji stated.
He added that though the trainees are not obligated to work with BUA after completing the programme, those who distinguished themselves in skill and character may be offered employment by the company.
Each of the 60 participants will receive a monthly training allowance of ₦150,000 for the duration of the six-month programme.
Also speaking, the Director of Human Resources, Abdulrosheed Bode, urged the beneficiaries to demonstrate discipline and dedication throughout the training.
“You were selected from a pool of many qualified applicants. Take this opportunity seriously. Be of good behaviour, ask questions when in doubt, and make the most of this chance to shape your future,” Bode advised.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Attahiru Alhaji Ladan expressed gratitude to BUA Cement for the opportunity, praising the company’s inclusive approach to youth development and the support of the local leadership.
“We thank BUA for this life-changing opportunity. We also commend our community leaders for their cooperation with the company. We promise to live up to expectations and justify the confidence reposed in us,” Ladan assured.
The initiative was part of BUA’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy aimed at promoting sustainable development, reducing youth unemployment, and strengthening ties with its host communities.
