British PM Boris Johnson appoints 39-yr-old Nigerian, Kemi Badenoch, as minister

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has appointed a 39-year-old British-Nigerian lady, Olukemi Olufunto Badenoch, as Children and Families Minister.

The newly appointed minister is a Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden and a British Conservative politician.

Badenoch, confirming her appointment on her official Twitter page @KemiBadenoch, said she was humbled to be appointed a junior minister at the DfE.

She wrote oh her Twitter handle: “I’m humbled to have been appointed a junior minister at the DfE. A huge privilege to be able to serve and make a positive difference on a number of issues close to my heart. I look forward to working with the ministerial team and everyone at @educationgovuk.

“Thank you for all good wishes and kind messages of support received. I also look forward to working not just with @Conservatives colleagues but cross-party and grateful for the warm welcome from @TracyBrabin and @SteveReedMP who no doubt will be keeping me on my toes,” she added.

Badenoch, a mother of two, studied systems engineering at Sussex University and practising in the UK as a software and IT engineer.

She was born in Wimbledon, London to Femi and Feyi Adegoke. Her father is a GP and her mother is a professor of physiology.

Badenoch’s childhood included time living in the United States (where her mother lectured) and Lagos, Nigeria. She returned to the United Kingdom at the age of 16.
