British actor John Shannon, popularly known as John Alford, is currently on trial after being accused of assaulting two underage girls at a house party in Hertfordshire.
According to prosecutors at St Albans Crown Court, the 53-year-old actor allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl twice on the night of April 9, 2022, first in a garden and later in a downstairs toilet.
He is also accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at the same gathering.
Alford faces four counts of sexual activity with a child and two charges related to the second girl. He denies all allegations.
Jurors were informed that the two girls had gone to a friend’s home after visiting a pub. Later that night, Alford allegedly arrived, bought vodka, and was left alone with them.
Prosecutor Julie Whitby stated that he asked the younger girl to sit on his lap before kissing and touching her.
In police interviews, Alford denied any sexual contact, claiming that one girl had told him she was 17 and had tried to kiss him. He asserted that both were attempting to extort money from him.
The investigation into the developments is ongoing as the trial continues.
Alford first rose to fame as Robbie Wright in the BBC drama Grange Hill before appearing in London’s Burning, Casualty, and several films.
He also briefly pursued a music career, with three singles reaching the UK Top 30.
