Many worshipers who attended a church programme in Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, were feared dead as the church building collapsed while service was in session.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, during the bishopric consecration of the pastor of Reigners Bible Church in Uyo township.
As of the time of filing this report, rescue workers were evacuating victims of the collapsed church building.
The state Governor Emmanuel Udom was on the roll call of guests expected at the programme but was not yet around when the incident happened.
However, some senior government officials are suspected to be among the victims, while the exact casualty figure is yet to be known.
