The founder of the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation (QAT), Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho, has donated N15 million to 100 nursing mothers and 100 sick children, as well as relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Borno State.
The foundation donated N10m to 100 nursing mothers and N5m to 100 sick children. Other items donated include 500 bags of 10 kg of rice, 500 cartons of Indomie, 500 blankets, and 500 mosquito nets.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the founder of the QAT foundation to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday, saying the donation, which was made at Yerwa Central Primary School in Maiduguri, was received by a staff member of the Borno State Ministry of Education, Mr Idris Ya’u.
The statement further disclosed that “Tejuosho was received by the Shehu of Borno, His Majesty Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, in his palace, where she equally donated essential items, including Indomie, rice, mosquito nets, blankets, and children’s clothing, to support the victims.
“On Wednesday, the CEO of QAT Foundation, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho Adenike, visited Maiduguri, Borno State, in her usual gesture to commiserate with the Borno state government, the Shehu of Borno, and the victims of the recent flood disaster in the state that displaced thousands of people from their homes while others lost their lives and properties.
“The situation in Maiduguri is worrisome as it calls for both national and international support due to the unimaginable pains that the good people of Maiduguri are passing through right now. No words can adequately capture the depth of their pain and suffering.
“However, as a foundation doing what we know how to do best, I believe that in times of crisis, we must come together as a community to provide support, comfort, and hope. That is why we have come to Maiduguri today, to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Borno State and to contribute in some small way to their relief.
“The donation made—N15 million and relief materials—is a token of my commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. I hope that it will provide some measure of comfort and relief to those who need it most.
“I would like to commend the efforts of the Borno State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other organisations working tirelessly to respond to this disaster. I also applaud the generosity of fellow philanthropists, including Aliko Dangote and Aminu Dantata, who have made significant contributions to the relief efforts.
”I urge all Nigerians to remember that we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. Let us continue to support one another in times of need and work together to build a more compassionate and resilient society.” Tejuosho said in the statement.
Tejuosho’s selfless contribution has earned her recognition alongside distinguished philanthropists, showcasing the impact one person can have on their community, the statement noted.
“Her exceptional track record of philanthropy and commitment to alleviating suffering makes her an outstanding candidate for the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as many Nigerians opined,” it concluded.
