GOMBE state Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has chided President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal administration for the inability to stem the Boko Haram insurgency within three months as boasted before the 2015 general elections during electioneering campaigns just as he formally declared his intention to contest for the Presidency of the country under the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.
The Governor made the declaration during a meeting of political stakeholders and top chieftains of the party held Saturday evening at the Banquet Hall of the Gombe State Government House.
It would be recalled that there had been speculations of Hassan Dankwambo’s ambition for the country’s topmost political office with calls from different groups and individuals from different parts of the country for him to take a shot at the Presidency come 2019.
The meeting had in attendance the National Deputy Chairman of the party in the North-East, Babayo Garba Gamawa, all state Chairmen of the party in the six States of the zone, top party officials, Elders among others.

Hassan Dankwambo unequivocally told the gathering that he would have dropped his ambition if the people of the zone are against it. It was at this point, he asked the delegates if he should contest to which the entire hall answered in affirmation.
He said the zone was long overdue for the Presidency after a very long time since the regime of late First and only Prime Minister of the country, late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa adding that “we have been consulting and seeking the support of other zones to produce the next President of the country come 2019.”
According to him, the zone needs to present a candidate with a formidable track record of achievement which the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had failed woefully to impress Nigerians with and it was in that light that he said he is offering himself.
He then chided the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC federal government for promising to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency that has ravaged the zone within his first three months in office and turn around the economic fortunes of the country saying, “it is now over three years and heading to another general election, yet, the country is still living with security challenges and bad economic policies.”
Hassan DanKwambo assured that with his wealth of experience in and out of public service over the years, he is qualified to lead the country to greatness in order to be counted high among the comity of advanced nations of the world.
With his declaration for the presidency, Hassan DanKwambo has joined others who are aspiring for the sole ticket of the PDP as its presidential Candidate for the 2019 election.
