Bashir Ahmad, an ex-aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to the new surge in the price of bitcoin.
Tribune Online reports that the price of bitcoin surged to unprecedented heights, crossing the $100,000 mark for the first time on Wednesday. The world’s largest cryptocurrency was last trading at $103,225.
The development has continued to spark varied reactions from social media users and cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Reacting to the development via his verified X account on Thursday, Ahmad described the surge as a transformative moment for the digital assets industry.
According to him, the price hike is a reflection of growing optimism that the incoming administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will adopt policies favourable to cryptocurrencies.
He tweeted, “Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $100,000+, this fueled by optimism that a Donald Trump White House will be friendly to the digital asset industry. 🤯🤯”
Since Trump emerged as the winner of the November 5 U.S. presidential election, bitcoin’s value has jumped by over 45%, doubling in price since the beginning of the year.
Trump, a former crypto-sceptic, recently expressed interest in establishing a U.S. bitcoin “strategic reserve” akin to those for gold and oil. During his campaign, he pledged to position the United States as a global leader in cryptocurrency innovation.
