Bishop wants CAN to institute control mechanism in churches

Published by

THE presiding Bishop, Maranatha Chapel Worldwide, Rt Reverend Samuel 1 Olumakinde Alawode is seeking a summit on ways to restore order in the church practices in the country called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and all its blocks like the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to call for the summit on order to put a check and balance policy to guide and check of some Christian activities in the country.

Bishop Alawode made this appeal in a communiqué released at the 10th year anniversary of his consecration as a pentecostal charismatic bishop.

The anniversary was attended by the President of CAN, Reverend (Dr) Supo Ayokunle and his wife, Deborah, Oyo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 polls, Mr. Oluseyi Makinde and his wife, Tamunominini.

Bishop Alawode also charged the Christian body to come up with a common agreed agenda that the body of Christ in Nigeria would pursue on education, health, agriculture, science and technology sectors, among others.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and all its blocks, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) the block I belong to and all our leading fathers in the nation to call for a summit on order in the church today.

“In the wake of different people doing all kinds of wrong things, in the name of church and Christianity, the church in Nigeria needs to have a check and balance to guide activities in the nation, lest a government arise bringing out laws and policy that is anti-church, in the name of curbing excesses, human rights violations, abuse of power and so on in today’s church practices.”

“I know the bible says in the last days, the weed and the wheat will grow together. I know the Bible says in the last days, false prophets shall arise deceiving many, I know only God through His angels shall do the final separation between the wicked and the righteous. What I am saying is that the church in Nigeria should speak as one and stand in unity against clearly anti-Bible practices being perpetuated today in the name of Christianity by some wolves in sheep’s clothing.

“I believe CAN should not just be an association to gather together but a sort of ‘control’ and a kind of ‘watchtower;’ a body that all who claim to be Christians can respect for ‘correction’ and ‘order’ in Nigeria. My fear, I repeat, is lest a government arise, a Pharaoh that does not know Joseph arise, and start to bring up anti Christian laws and regulations in the name of curbing excesses, lawlessness, violation of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
