A century-old ancestral home in Ehor, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo, has been transformed into a modern College of Nursing Sciences, marking what community leaders describe as a historic turning point for education and healthcare in the region.
The imposing structure, once the country home of the late Rt. Rev. Johnson Wilfred Izevbokun Idahosa, the first Bini Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Benin, will now house the Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College of Nursing Sciences.
Unveiling the project, the Idahosa family said the initiative was conceived both as a tribute to their patriarch’s legacy and a response to the growing demand for well-trained health professionals in Nigeria.

“Bishop Idahosa believed in the transformative power of education. This project is an extension of his vision, brought into the 21st century,” a family representative said.
The college, according to its promoters, will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced visual and physical simulation laboratories designed to give students practical, near-clinical experiences. Beyond facilities, the institution is looking to tap into the expertise of Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora to inject global standards and best practices into its programmes.
Educationists and community members hailed the development as a major milestone, saying Ehor is now set to become a hub for healthcare training in Edo and beyond.
“This is more than just a school; it is an investment in the future of our young people and our healthcare system,” said one community leader at the unveiling.
With the Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College, the Idahosa family believes they are not only honouring the memory of a revered clergyman but also equipping a new generation of nurses who will help raise the standard of medical practice across Nigeria.
For the people of Ehor, the echo of history now blends with the promise of the future — as the century-old walls of Bishop Idahosa’s country home open their doors to tomorrow’s lifesavers .
