The Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church (worldwide), Taiwo Adelakun, has said that it is imperative for Nigerians to continually pray for leaders of the country right from the President to the least political office holder.
He posited that fervent prayers will serve as a spiritual support to complement the efforts they are putting in to ensure the country become a much more better place to live in for all its citizens.
Bishop Adelakun stated this while addressing journalists at Wonder City, an arm of the church located opposite Dominion University off Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, ahead of the church’s 35th annual convention with the theme: “All Things New”, scheduled to hold from Sunday August 3 to Sunday August 10, 2025.
The convention, according to Bishop Adelakun, is expected to feature sessions on salvation, deliverance, breakthroughs, healing, worship and the word of God.
Ministers expected to be integral part of the convention are: Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) National President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke; Pastor Dolapo Adelakun; Pastor Yemi Davies; Pastor Poju Oyemade; Apostle Emmanuel Iren and other anointed ministers of the gospel.
Bishop Adelakun noted: “Our nation is riddled with all kinds of things. It seems the leadership is perplexed, they do not know what to do. We need to turn to God. Anywhere there is unrighteousness, there will be trouble. We need more prayers. We need to pray more.
“For the sake of the prayers of the saints, Nigeria would have ceased to exist. Efforts should be backed up with prayers. There is a need for collaboration between the spiritual leaders and the government.
“Security men are doing a good job, but they need more prayers. There must be a synergy between the spiritual and physical efforts. There must be a combination of both forces.
“We cannot stop praying for our leaders. If we are praying and things are like this, just imagine how it would be if we were not praying. Nigeria ought to have ceased to be a nation, but for the sake of the prayers of the saints asking God for mercy. I know we will get it right.”
While expressing serious concern over the intentions of individuals going into politics, saying: “Many people go into governance for different reasons. This is why you see some people taking it up while others bring it down. The goal of each individual is different.”
He expressed optimism that Nigeria will still bounce back. “We have survived so many things. Nigerians are an unusual set of people.
“Nigeria ought to have ceased to be a nation, but for the sake of the prayers of the saints asking God for mercy. I know we will get it right”, he concluded.
