The Archbishop of the Ibadan Province of the African Church, Most Reverend Julius Abbe, has said that being available for the work of God, acting according to His will and sustaining a good relationship with God are some of the main qualities Christians must uphold in the vineyard.
Abbe made the remarks in a sermon at the thanksgiving service of the Lay vice president of the Ibadan North Diocese and Province of the Church, Evangelist (Dr) Annah Afolabi, last Saturday at the Holy Trinity parish of the church, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He said that it was not time for Christians to get carried away or rejoice over their contributions to the growth of the church and development of the gospel, except their names were written in the book of life.
“You must be ready to deny yourself. You must have the growth of the church at heart and be ready to put smiles on the faces of the underprivileged and see whether God will not reward you in folds, because He would reward those that diligently seek after; service Him and cheerfully give. This development is a new dawn in the history of the African Church and we are marvelous and happy to witness. Evangelist Afolabi is a proof of a committed personality that is interested in the uplift of God’s work and that she is being recorgnised as the first female Vice Lay President of the church,” he said.

He, however, charged her, not to relent in propagating the gospel, which was one of the criteria that earned her the position in the church.
He also acknowledged her donation of N50 million towards the propagation of the gospel within and outside the church.
In his congratulatory message, the host, Venerable Femi Taiwo noted that it was gratifying that God granted Afolabi the grace to serve in the vineyard.
“She has been instrumental in the church and we are glad that this has happened. Her good virtues, dedication, commitment and spirit to work for God are one of the qualities brought her to the position,” he said.
In her remarks, she expressed her gratitude to God and everyone that came to celebrate with her.
She, described the recognition as a reward of God’s faithfulness and promised to sustain her propagation of the church.
“I promise to bring a change in serving God and investing in God’s work. This development would also be an eye opener and opportunity for women to be courageous in God’s work. Though women have soft hearts, we can make things happen because we don’t believe in failure. I am hopeful for the time we will have a female president in the country,” she stated.
