The Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, has called for greater investment in biotechnology as a tool to empower Nigerian youth, drive innovation, and foster sustainable development.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Mustapha stressed that the future of Nigeria rests squarely on its youth population and that biotechnology holds the key to unlocking their potential.
“The future of Nigeria rests with its youth, and biotechnology can unlock their potential. Empowering the next generation through biotechnology is not an act of charity, but the most strategic investment a nation can make” he wrote.
According to the NBRDA boss, biotechnology must be positioned as an engine for innovation, job creation, and wealth generation in order to prepare young Nigerians for leadership roles in a competitive global economy.
He noted that the agency remains committed to working with policymakers, government institutions, industry players, academia, and international partners to align policy, investment, and training opportunities in the sector.
Mustapha emphasised that his vision is to see Nigerian youth evolve from job seekers into job creators, industry leaders, and problem solvers who drive transformation across key sectors.
“Now is the time to give our youth the tools to build, innovate, and lead,” he added.
The DG reiterated that biotechnology is not just a tool for national development but also a legacy that must be secured for future generations.
The NBRDA, under his leadership, has consistently championed policies and initiatives aimed at advancing biotechnology adoption in agriculture, healthcare, environmental management, and other critical sectors of the economy.
