The Benue State Government has reacted to the relocation order given by the state Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpembese saying it’s not aware of the relocation of Local Government Election Petition Tribunals to Abuja.
Speaking to newsmen in Makurdi on Wednesday, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Mr Fidelis Mnyim said neither the governor nor his office has received any correspondence notifying them of the decision to relocate the tribunals to Abuja.
According to the commissioner for Justice, the state government which finance the tribunals ought to be informed of the relocation and reasons for it.
Mayim said, “The State Government that finances the tribunals has to be informed of the decision to relocate the tribunals and reasons for the relocation. But none of that happened.
“Even my office was not informed. We woke up to hear rumors that the tribunals had been relocated to Abuja. We went to the court and discovered that nobody was there.
“Aside being the AG of the State, I’m the counsel to the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), so as a respondent, we retain the right to be informed of any decision of such nature”.
