ESTHER BENJAMIN writes on fun facts about coconut oil.
COCONUT oil comes from the coconut fruit. It contains medium chain fatty acids, including capric acid, caprylic acid and lauric acid. About 52% to 85% of coconut oil is made up of specific saturated fats, called medium chain fatty acids. It has a moisturizing effect when applied to the skin.
Coconut oil is pretty versatile too and has proven it’s usefulness in other areas. Being that it is solid at room temperature, it can be used as an ingredient in baking and cooking. This is as a replacement for vegetable oil or butter in recipes as well as a cooking acid. You can also use it for greasing baking pans so it’s definitely worth having in your cupboard. It is important to know that coconut oil does contain saturated fat, but recent research has shown that coconut oil contains primarily medium chain fatty acids.
