It will be recalled that Mr Eris, erstwhile member of the PDP defected to the APC to support former Governor, Timipre Sylva’s ambition of unseating Governor Seriake Dickson in order to return to Creek Haven, the Bayelsa seat of power.
Speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital, Spokesman of the APC, Mr Fortune Panebi, said the trump charges by the PDP indicting Mr Eris as the mastermind of mayhem in his community, Peremabiri in Southern Ijaw, necessitated security harassment and plan to arrest him.
The last election in Peremabiri was characterized by violence, leading to loss of lives, even the Paramount Ruler survived the gunshot, just as many were displaced, but they have been returned to the community by the Dickson led government.
Panebi absorbs Eris from the allegations levelled by the ruling PDP in the state, noting that the last governorship election had been concluded and wondered why the PDP suddenly decided to use it as a smokescreen to incriminate him.
According to him, Governor Seriake Dickson and his party procured the election by camping thugs in the state capital, and the local government areas to disenfranchise APC members from exercising their civic right.
Panebi, however, pointed that the whole melodrama was targeted primarily to strengthen overtures turn down to force Mr Eris to dump the APC led by former Governor, Sylva and pitch tent with the PDP as a ground for soft landing.
He pointed that Bayelsans have a right to belong to any political party of their choice, and warned against the continued harassment and trump up charges to incriminate Mr Eris.
Panebi also called on security operatives not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the PDP Chieftains to achieve their inordinate quest to mount pressure on Eris to decamp to their fold.
In a swift reaction, the PDP Spokesman, Osom Macbere, said the PDP hold sway in the state and that was why the APC members defeated to the party in the last election, even as he noted that the APC trade in stock is to tell lies and mislead the public.
He pointed that matters under security investigation must not be subverted with political gimmicks, rather they (security) should be allowed to do their job and the outcome would tell if the accused is guilty or innocent.
To this end, he reiterated that Bayelsa is PDP just as Anambra is APGA, and that the flimsy reason put forward does not hold water because if the election is conducted ten times over in Bayelsa, the PDP would definitely emerge victoriously.
