The situation was such that flood overtook the length and breadth of the rural community on the bank of the ancient river nun which flows from the river Niger.
According to the indigenes, the community is prone to perennial flooding, but they never expected the flood because it was predicted to have happened in July/August, only wake up and start waddling in flood water that in all nooks and crannies of the community.
Indigent, account has it that it was as a result of a surge from the River Nun that overflow its bank overnight, as mass water from the River Niger emptied itself, while the development has devastated farm settlements/lands, houses and other valuables have been overtaken by the rampaging waters.
Some of the indigenes who narrated their ordeal said some houses, as well as their source of livelihood, had been lost to the disaster.
President of the Ekpetiama youth association, Mr Peter Otobotekere and others who said the community had been experiencing the challenge since the nineteen- fifties appealed to the government to come to their aid.
To this end, indigent of the community, however, called on the federal and state government to come to their aid, even as they noted that only a shoreline protection infrastructure would save the area from the perennial flooding challenge when the river nun overflows its banks.
