Two suspects have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for alleged criminal conspiracy and cattle rustling.
According to the Command PPRO, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, “On 14 August 2025, at about 0930 hrs, intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicated a suspected gang of cattle rustlers around Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA.”
He stated that, “Upon receipt of the information, a team of detectives drafted at the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with sister security agencies, led by the DPO, swung into action and successfully arrested two suspects possessing ten cattle suspected to have been stolen.”
The arrested suspects include Umar Usman, aged 24, and Auwal Mohammed, aged 22, residents of Magana district, Soba LGA, Kaduna State.
The PPRO disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects willingly confessed to being cattle rustlers, adding that about a month ago, they criminally conspired among themselves, went to a Fulani settlement located at Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi, and rustled the recovered ten cattle in their possession.
Members of the public, particularly the community of Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi, and the entire public, are requested to further disseminate this information for the possible tracing of the rightful owners of the recovered stolen cattle.
The investigation is ongoing; afterwards, the suspects will be profiled and charged to court for the established offences accordingly.
Also, on 16 August 2025, at about 0320 hrs, a distress call was received from an anonymous source disclosing that on the same date, between 0200 hrs and 0300 hrs, a group of armed robbers, numbering about 20, armed with guns, machetes, knives, and sticks, stormed into Madina Quarters and behind the old graveyard, Fadaman Mada areas of Bauchi, respectively, and encroached into many houses and robbed the occupants of their valuables.
On receipt of the report, a team of detectives attached to ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in collaboration with committee members of the area, mobilised to the scene.
On sighting the police, the suspected armed robbers took to their heels, leaving one Jamilu Usman, aged 35.
Nine others were discovered to have been robbed of their valuables, which included fourteen different types of mobile phones, two televisions, two male gowns, and the sum of ₦100,000.
Soon after, the detectives, while conducting visibility policing patrol around 0503 hrs of the same date, arrested one of the culprits, Ahmed Hassan, aged 20, of Tirwun area, Bauchi, roaming about Warinje Hills, and a robbed Gionee mobile phone was recovered in his possession.
Following his arrest, the suspect mentioned and identified his accomplices, which led to the apprehension of three other suspects: Ismail Isah, AKA Masha, aged 18; Uzaifa Abubakar, AKA Damó, aged 19; and Abdulhamid Idris, aged 20, all of Tirwun, Kofar Gombe, Abujan Kwata, and behind NITEL Quarters, Bauchi, respectively.
Exhibits recovered from the above-mentioned suspects include one locally made revolver gun, one 7.62mm live ammunition, one knife, one short Dane gun, two machetes, and a torchlight.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being responsible for various armed robbery operations within the Bauchi metropolitan area.
Efforts have been put in place to track and arrest their remaining syndicate/accomplices. The investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be profiled and charged to court upon completion.
Furthermore, on 16 August 2025, at about 2347 hrs, the Command apprehended Mujahid Muhammad, aged 22, of Gudum Hausawa, and Adamu Abdullahi, aged 21, of Dan-Dango, in possession of a reasonable quantity of aluminium electric wires suspected to be stolen property.
During interrogation, they confessed to having stolen the aluminium from the electrical poles at Dan-Dango village. Additionally, one of the suspects, Adamu Abdullahi, further confessed to having stolen the aluminium wires on 15 August 2025 together with one Abdulmumini Waziri of Gwallagan Mayaka, who is now at large, and sold them to one Haruna, AKA Magaji, of Gudum Hausawa, who is also at large.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the arrested suspects had been involved in these acts for a long time, and the Command will expand its investigation to explore more details behind this act of vandalism.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
Based on the investigation findings, the Command will liaise with Jos Electric Distribution (JED), Bauchi, to arrange and prosecute the offenders for the established offences.
